but the big issue for me is sound. Now for smaller shoots I’ve always been able to plug into the camera using XLR leads, control the audio and run shot gun mics and lapel mics without any issue. With the DSLRs you don’t have that luxury so I have had to find a work around. The answer was the Zoom H4N, a great little portable audio recorder that I can attach to the top of my camera. It has 4 channels of audio but it doesn’t like shot gun mics at all, anything with phantom power dies within 10 minutes of operating which is a pretty huge issue! And it also means that coming to the edit all the audio has to be re-synced!
